Mythos Estiatorio was born out of four Greeks' love for Greek cuisine, who, while living in Mexico, would gather to share with friends and family the food, traditions, and culture of Greece.Seafood, grape leaves, eggplant, garlic, kalamata olives, phyllo dough, extra virgin olive oil, spearmint, and ouzo (an anise-flavoured Greek liqueur) are some of the leading flavors on the menu.As with any tradition rooted in the sea, the ingredients are fresh and the techniques are rustic.
The secret lies in letting the ingredients speak with light, representative dishes of the coast.
They have the must-haves like tzatziki, a classic dip made with Greek yogurt, cucumber, and garlic; grape leaf rolls, phyllo dough turnovers, and a smaller version of the Greek taco, gyros. One dish to take note of is their Greek salad, in which the house-made feta cheese, kalamata olives, and extra virgin olive oil make all the difference.Another dish that will make you come back for more is the htapodi sti skara, a grilled octopus marinated with oregano, capers, and a touch of lemon. I also crave the Paros-style shrimp. The sauce is creamy and you can distinctly taste the ouzo and fennel, which add a slightly sweet and anise-like touch to the dish. It comes with a side of steamed rice, although a more imaginative option wouldn't hurt. For dessert, treat yourself to the galaktoboureko, a semolina custard with a phyllo dough crust. Sweet, vanilla-flavored with hints of orange. Satisfying.
