THE PALM, NEW YORK CHARM THAT CONQUERS.For over 85 years, Palm Restaurant has been renowned for its USDA Prime Steaks, jumbo Nova Scotia lobsters, Italian dishes and a unique atmosphere where the continuous celebration of tradition and the legendary taste of a classic American steak house of New York origin are experienced. But how did this classic restaurant come about? The story of Palm dates back to 1920 when Pio Bozzi and John Ganzi, the founders of the brand, arrived in the United States from Parma, Italy in search of new opportunities and in 1926 opened their own restaurant in the heart of the Italian neighborhood on Second Avenue and registered their establishment in the city. The new restaurateurs decide to name their establishment Parma, but due to their Italian accents and peculiar pronunciation, the name is mistakenly registered as Palm and from that moment on the restaurant begins to become popular among locals.By 1931, Palm's reputation as a steakhouse begins to solidify, thanks to Ganzi and Bozzi's willingness to serve their predominantly local clientele of publications and companies such as the New York Daily Mirror, Hearst Corporation, King Features and United Press International. Such was their commitment to providing the best service that when a journalist requested a steak, Ganzi would run down Second Avenue to the butcher shop, buy the best cut, and cook it exactly as it had been ordered. In the 1940s, the next generation of family owners, Walter Ganzi and Bruno Bozzi, take over the operations of their parents' restaurant and among the changes, they add a two-pound lobster to the menu, popularizing the combination known as surf & turf, and the restaurant maintains its popularity during the war by being able to provide meat to customers despite scarce supplies.By the late 1940s, several skyscrapers are developed between 44th and 45th streets, and Bozzi and Ganzi are offered a considerable sum of money for the building that houses Palm, but they decide to stay, setting a precedent that the restaurant will remain in its original location in Manhattan, where it is still found today. In 1972, Palm opens its doors in Washington, D.C. thanks to the encouragement of George Bush senior, who urges the owners to bring their good American food to the capital, and in 1975, Palm opens a new and successful location in West Hollywood, which quickly becomes the Mecca for celebrities. In the mid-1970s, the restaurant becomes so popular that it begins to open branches throughout the United States, reaching its peak growth in the 1980s and 1990s, with branches operating in Houston, Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Boston, Denver, and Charlotte. In 1998, it opens its doors at the InterContinental Hotel in Mexico City thanks to an important partnership with Grupo Presidente, becoming the first branch outside of the United States. In the same year, the “Club 837” loyalty program is created, which recognizes and rewards the loyalty of regular customers, inviting them to become part of the Palm family. In Mexico, the restaurant quickly gains fame, becoming the favorite hot spot for celebrities, politicians, and personalities from different areas, which made Palm Mexico come to life and remain in the minds of diners. The brand continued on its path to success and between 2000 and 2011, 8 more branches were opened in the United States, and in 2012, one year after celebrating the 85th anniversary of the brand's birth, a second branch opened in Mexico, located at the InterContinental Santa Fe hotel, also operated by Grupo Presidente. The decor of the restaurant has always caught the attention of onlookers with its unique caricatures adorning its walls, and this tradition dates back to the early days of the restaurant. The founders mention that the first customers, mostly local cartoonists, did not have enough money to pay for their dinner and would make a caricature in exchange for a plate of pasta. The tradition continues alive, and to this day, caricatures of celebrities and personalities from different areas decorate the walls of the restaurants as a symbol of identity and remaining faithful to their roots.Palm restaurants are a symbol of prestige, tradition, excellent service, and unparalleled gastronomy. In the particular case of Mexico, the only branches outside of the United States, they remain the favorites of celebrities and personalities from different areas.
